I'm positively friendly compared to all the others who have the knives out for them at the moment.

XT network for sale on TradeMe. Read the Questions, they're hilarious.

Alcatel Lucent's NZ Boss quits - he's the guy in charge of building XT.

XT down for a fourth time.

Government being asked to step in to deal with XT debarcle.

Oh who am I kidding, I haven't been able to stand Telecom since 2000. In that 10yrs they've gotten worse.

Their recent history with outages is quite shocking. I can't believe they had outages and didn't fix the problem or even warn people it might/will happen again! We are lucky up in Auckland though as the problems seem to affect the lower half of the country worse, but still my girlfriend (who owns both a Telecom and Vodafone phones) has had trouble texting people back home in Christchurch just due to Christchurch's network being out.

Did anybody watch Campbell Live last night. They had a section on XT and had a pretty good go at Telecom (as they have in previous nights also) through their recommendation of switching to Vodafone or 2degrees, and so on.

(They also had a section on Grafton Bridge which caught me out a few weeks back. The bastards.)

More info on the outages to be found in audio on the Radio NZ National site.

Also, audio of an interview with Ben Verwaayen, CEO of Alcatel Lucent (makers of the XT network).

2 Degrees finally launched their 3G network today.

2 Degrees mobile broadband zones
2 Degrees USB Modems (existing Vodafone and XT modems will also work with 2 Degrees 2100MHz network.

Micro-SIMs are available for iPhone 4 and iPad but no word yet on an iPhone supply deal.

Vodafone have confirmed on their forum that the iPhone/Smart Plan promotion of 3GB/1000 Pxt is staying until further notice, ie: it's permanent but they reserve the right to withdraw it if they want to. Vodafone will provide 30 days notice of withdrawal. This basically just changes things from we'll let you know if it's extended (which it always is) to we'll let you know if it stops (which stops further speculation and endless threads on their forum). Nice.

This is the best data deal on the NZ market and combined with Naked DSL puts Vodafone in a very competitive position for retaining tech-savvy customers.
