Spoke to o2 select customer care yesterday and asked them about these new tarrifs as I wanted to change over to one.
I was told that there was no new tarrifs coming next month.
I was by my laptop so I bought up this thread and read it out to them what we had been told (without mentioning Esato).

They just said that it is wrong and that there is no new tarrifs coming out. They have not been given any notification of them either.

Can anyone shed some light on this

I have an Asus EEE PC ( http://www.pcpro.co.uk/reviews/133848/asus-eee-pc-701.html )

I want to use my phone to connect to the internet on it when I'm out of the house... as it's a very basic laptop, I of course only want to use it for email and basic browsing...

I Just upgraded my existing o2 contract to the new £35 and chose the unlimited web, but I understand now that I can't use it for my laptop?

Can anyone give me some options for using my laptop through my mobile? - e.g. is there a different tarrif - it would still have to be cheap, because I think the occasions will be rare when I am out and don't have access to wi-fi.

You'd have to go on Web Max to use it as a modem, which is £30 a month.

Have a look at 3, they do a £10 a month contract with a data card that gives you 1GB of data a month and the data card is free if you go on a 24 month contract.

Thanks for your reply. £30 a month is more than I want to pay, and with 3's signal here I have more chance of finding a wifi hotspot lol.

Does anyone know what O2 charge for using the phone as a modem without the £30 bolton?

They should charge as standard per MB, so £3 per MB.

bugger! so if I was going to use more than 10MB I'd be better off with the max bolton *sigh*

Pretty much.

Failing that, try T-Mobile or Vodafone, dare I say it.

O2's data card option isn't all that cheap, so it's worth looking at the competitors.
