I have a Sony DSC-T700 which can macro almost as close as you like but the X1 seems to want to be 6 or more inches away
this is about the best I have done. I'll try again with some flowers or something in the daylight

X1 pictures are not revolutionary, but pretty respectable for a winmo. I wouldn't feel completely ripped off. Well good enough to print quality 6x4 snappies.

I start with indoor shot
and finish with a macro shot

The indoor pic down below in the Cafe is taken down by -2.0. And it's a bit dark if you want to take on a person. Bur you can still take it down to -1.0 or maby even 1.5 if the face of the person is a little mor lit then the background.
I also use to take outdoor pics with -0,5. The tree down below isn't, and the sky is all white in the pics, i should have used -0.5...
How are you adjusting the exposure? I have looked through the settings but I can't find anything about exposure
