i don't understand the need for a compass when you have GPS and google map's installed.

GPS/maps are best when you're moving. When stopped, GPS can't tell you which way you're facing. The digital compass can orientate your map when you are stationary or before you set off

also, you don't always have a data connection and in that case google maps just displays a blank page. With the compass you can still navigate in straight lines in a known direction. good for orienteering.

granted though, its not the best of the new features but certainly a feature I will be using together with the tethering, voice control, landscape typing in emails etc, voice memos etc and I might even swap my polar foot sensor/HRM for the Nike offering now too

anyway, here's the 3G S page

thanks for clearing that up masseur. What i find really good is the Find My Iphone feature I think thats pretty smart (plus i already have mobileme so yay). Especially when you can remotely delete everything. I have been looking at Apple UK website and it looks like O2 have also got the new Iphone as part of the agreement with Apple. It says coming soon on O2 on the price section of the website:

My iphone rarely leaves my hand... let alone my sight! so I doubt I will use that feature.
WM has had the remote delete for a while but never really saw a need for it myself though I do know a hell of alot of phones get left in taxi's so it will be useful for someone.

edit: its on the O2 store now

Was thinking that this may be my next phone as it is now starting to appeal to me but the cost is just too much. I dont spend much time talking on the phone, most of the time is using the net or texting. £45 a month on a 24 month tariff to get the phone for free is way to much for me. My blackberry costs me £30 and I got it free on a 18 month contract.

those prices are a bit of a surprise when Apple said in the presentation that they wanted to make the iPhone more affordable!

Note sure if the new iphone will support Flash. did anyone notice this?

at the prices on pay and go.

iPhone 3G S 32GB - £538.30 ??? seems reasonable as on prepay though. I mean if you look at the competition to Apple and the high range phones on sim free other companies offer, you will find for example the N97 sim free is £499.00.

Tethering is tad expensive:
To tether you need an Internet Tethering Bolt On: 3GB for £14.68/month, 10GB for £29.36/month. Both include The Cloud's Wi-Fi
