I jailbroke my 3gs immediately after it was officially unlocked by O2 with no issues.
Jailbreakling and unlocking are two quite separate things so there is no reason to be worried, but if there was an issue you simply do a restoer in itunes and you'll be back to where you are now

Intelliscreen is the one thing I paid for and do miss now that I'm not jailbroken.
I'm hoping Apple will continue relaxing its rules a little so that this can be brought to the app store

because I'm running the beta 4 OS.
There is a jailbreak for beta 4 os but its only recommended for people who develop jailbroken apps as it apparantly has some issues that I'd rather not be bothered with

btw if you can jail break means you can get hold of your ssh files which means you can downgrade the firmware and update it to 3.1.2 soo it can be unlock
