"Our engineering teams have been working hard for the past few months to find a way to bring Gingerbread to the HTC Desire without compromising the HTC Sense experience you’ve come to expect from our phones. However, we’re sorry to announce that we’ve been forced to accept there isn’t enough memory to allow us both to bring Gingerbread and keep the HTC Sense experience on the HTC Desire. We’re sincerely sorry for the disappointment that this news may bring to some of you."

Who saw that coming? , Desire not getting 2.3 and the X10,the very device i saw many Desire owners bash is actualy getting a more recent update.

HTC Sense must be quite a memory hog then.

UPDATE:

So HTC some how managed to find the memory after yesterday's announcement it seems as if that was REALY the issue

Desire Gingerbread update is coming: http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_t[....]_desire_is_a_go_-news-2781.php

That's ridiculous! If they can bring it to the X10 surely the Desire is capable. Although SE did admit the X10 would lose some minor functionality the OS is the heart of the phone.

The X10 would really benefit from it. SE got slaughtered on the tech blogs for not planning to upgrade the X10 the OS past Eclair. There are going to be an awful lot of pee'd off Desire owners.

The hate is flowing now for HTC, thinking there is a 'conspiracy' forcing current Desire owners to buy new phones.

Maybe that's why they do these things forcing you to buy new.

They are being slaughtered on Twitter, the Desire is probably their best selling device til now, so you can imagine how much flack they are getting right now, they pretty much stripped away all the trust they built up with the Desire in terms of updates, the worst part is that they had originaly said they would bring it, and had many fooled into thinking the Desire would get it this month ,so this has come as a huge shock to many.

But most people i.e the average consumer won't be bothered & I see this not really affecting their overall sales imo

Mmmmmm, not sure about that. Hell hath no fury like a angry fanboy's scorn.

I think Samsung just gained a whole lot of customers.
