Is the extra weight due to the camera ? The camera better be as amazing as they say it is . I don't really like the trend with the phones increasing in weight (hopefully as technology evolves , it will go back to 160-180 grams ).

Also it is a shame that XZ premium 2 doesn't have a larger screen . With XZ2 having a 5.8 already it seems like they could have differentiated them a bit more by going with a larger screen on XZ premium 2 . Will be interesting to see how well it sells - hopefully it will do well

Sony is going for that "WTF" Factor this year

There is a whole lot of WTF with their phones, from the announcement timing to their size, weight as well as the removal of the 3.5mm jack, oh and the screen real estate is quite the zinger to.

Weight wise the XZ2 is at 198g, while the larger XZ2 Premium is at a monstrous 236g, that is Nokia 9500 Communicator (Keyboard and 2 screens running 2 different OSs and all) territory.

In terms of thickness the XZ2 is 11.1 and the XZ2 Premium is 11.9mm, that is HTC Desire (2010 Android Flagship) territory with the much larger 45nm chipsets.

I'm terms of screen is where I am also baffled, the XZ2 has a 18:9 5.7inch display, while the XZ2 Premium uses a 16:9 5.8inch Display, hence the shorter more squaty look of the XZ2P, it looks more like a 2017 Sony flagship with thicker Bezels.

One would assume that Sony would have given the XZ2 Premium the slimmer Bezels to make the 4K display more Immersive, they could have put a 6.3inch display in that body. The Huawei Mate10 (NOT Pro), fits a 5.9inch display in a much smaller and lighter body
See below

Anyways, the XZ2 Premium looks great in this colour I must say shame about its overall build though

All I want to see is its camera capabilities. That fusion chip better do wonder to justify that extra weight.

But hey, Sony has Vibration system that vibrates while you watch videos!

Looks like their designers and enginers are not capable, and probably all the great ones already work for Apple, Samsung, Huawei... Sony as a mobile brand is nothing more then some Motorola, HTC, you name any other shitty brand, and I am really convinced in that after this XZ2P design fiasco.

Only worth thing from Sony about their mobile business are their camera sensors, which ironically produce better photos when taken with non Sony phones.

In all honesty? Sony are fully capable of designing the best flagship out there, they have the talent.

My guess is Sony is trying "buck the trend" and standout, it's a noble move by them, this is the same company that gave us the gorgeous Xperia Arc, they know how to design slim svelte devices.

I don't think they are capable of cramming the hardware into a small body, its like they are not smart enough. Sure they can make pretty devices but certain ideas don't work. This curved body with thick glass back is heavy and I bet there is lots of free space in there, they could've easily added a audio jack. Then the vibration thing, a bit pointless actually. I know design is subjective but the XZ2 Compact is an example of when they tried to fit everything into a smaller body and you saw how that ended up, I think its hideous and perhaps showcases Sony's current capability. I certainly would take a thick bezel XZ and XZ1 over anything ambient flow and why they didn't swap the XZ2 and XA2 designs over is amazing, XA2 looks so much better.

Having said all that, it looks like its going to be one of the best devices this year but I should expect a premium design with a premium spec and premium price.

Yeah I hope the abolish the vibration sounds for the next year or even by IFA. No one really seem to care too much about that feature. People care more about slim bezels and photo quality.

To be honest I think Sony is going on the right direction camera-wise.
Not a camera expert but high-iso sensitivity is better than OIS in terms of night photography based on my experience. OIS + low iso would definitely prevent handblur but any movement and your picture would be a disaster, same thing I guess for Aperture.

Wow, so much bashing on an unreleased device. How many of you actually hold a Xz2 in hand? I have been using it as my daily driver for almost a month now replacing the XZ Premium and XA1 ultra, and other than the weight, there is nothing to complain. And it's not like you will feel the thickness of the phone. When you are holding a phone, the gap between your hand and the phone is still there, so in fact, all you feel is the 6mm thickness. And the imbalanced position of the speakers has no effect in audio quality what so ever.

I must also say, the camera impressed me most. It actually beast out a iPhone X and Note 8 easily with its colour and details. I only wish it has OIS though.

It is definately a better phone than the XZP.
