Samsung's cam is 1/2.55 1.4um
Sony is 1/2.6 1.4um same iso range, dual pixel with DRAM. Not too different.

All three cams can't be the same thickness then since uwa and tele has the same size sensor. But since tele is the most problematic it makes sense. Though it'd have been better if they used their own sensors with a bigger protrusion.

That Light camera probably will debut on some other manufacturer like how they produce sensors but can't deliver 3 cams after 3 years, or how they are making tof cams but Xperia is not the first to have it.

Does eye af even have a tangible benefit at this scale of camera modules? It's important for big cams because of physics and how bokeh works. Why do we need it on a phone?

I dont think samsung can reach iso12800.
Not even on auto, manual is 800.

Light has deal with Sony Semicon, not Sony Mobile.
So any company can have access to that tech.
Same way the have deal with HMD.

Tracking eye is their best way to keep subject in focus.
Official video show eye AF ...

For example children, they're always on the move.
Eye AF could save a photo if the child make any head movement ..
Faster shutter in this case is not enough to avoid blur.

X1's max iso is 3200. I think samsung is the same. 12800 was for the previous gen.

I know those deals, same applies to their sensors. That's what I am saying: probably someone will beat sony mobile to Light camera Co developed with Sony.

Eye af is better for big cams but let's say it focuses on the face instead would we see any difference in sharpness? I don't think so and the movement blur is solved with tracking, as long as you track the face you can have perfect focus.

Big cams have such optics that can focus on the eye blurring the nose, so it's desirable to have eye af. But that tiny scale of phones does not have such power. So if the face is in focus eye is too and bokeh is simulated. It could be good the have eye af but will it make a difference?

3200 is too low. Which means for video is even lower value.
Older have 4000 for video and in many situations it's too dark at night.
Even for outdoor footage.

😡😡😡😡

That is why I hate those smaller 12MP sensors.
The worse part is the fact they take more than 18months to use a new one.
The other brands get new every year.

Sony make the best sensors and make money from selling loads but there is no excuse for Xperia not to have the best camera performance. Anyway, I've had hands on with the Galaxy Fold. It's amazing to think that Sony still has no wireless charging while Samsung and Huawei are moving to the next level, forget camera sensors because they've been left behind altogether.

Fold is a joke imo. Even the screen inside is to small in the era of 6 to 7 inches of regular smartphone screens. It has no real value other than bragging rights. I loled when I saw Casey niestat saying 'oh look 3 apss in one screen' while there's no comprehensible content from the tiny 2 apps. But to each their own.

Yes Xperia has no excuse anymore. At least match those like xs and S10 for a first step.

In here he says it's like f/20 in a 50mm lens on 35mm sensor which has a very large dof. Meaning the part in focus is way too large. That's what I mean. Eye af won't be that different from a simpler face af.

Samsung claimed you would not be able to see the fold down the middle, in regards to those leaked photos from a while back, but in the video from neistat, you can clearly see the fold when the screen displays black colours. Hopefully with future devices this can be minimized or even eliminated.

In my opinion the concept of Moto Razr and the prototype from Sharp are much better.
Weird that nobody complains those phones are much harder to use.
But weirdly tech site have issues to use 10 with one hand despite being smaller than iphone 8+, OP6 or XZ Premium.

I still think imx400 is the best sensor for mobile so far.
Mid-sized, good resolution, the fastest readout.
Capable of many features.
The other are just bigger.

About the lack of ToF.. The video from Sony Semicon show its skills for AR.
So far few have it just for better background defocus.
One brand is using for AF, I dont remember who is.

Qi is useless. They should not have used last year.
Wasted of space and money.
Better having 22W charging.

Laser AF was removed too.

Have you seen Westworld? There are 3 fold handheld devices there. That would be actually useful.

Fold would be better if it had a bigger outer screen. This way it is basically a tablet with a smartwatch slapped on it.

And where is Sony's folding phone or even the Xperia 1? They give their sensors to Huawei who then get praised for having the best mobile camera while they produce nonsense every year. They screw the release dates every year. They have been late to the party in every aspect since the Z4. Xperia 1 which has one good feature which is the screen, everything else is boring like flipping Juventus who got Ronaldo but forgot to address any of the real issues so the overall package is mediocre, hence the ass whoop they got from Ajax this evening. Garbage.

At least Samsung did something different and are developing stuff. What is Sony doing? How is it that a company that boasts Walkman, Alpha and Bravia can't do none of it right? Sony is obsolete out of being so stubborn and deluded, just like Juventus. They can all eat my sweaty ball sack.
