Have you tried a network search on the phone?

It lists all networks, the 3G ones have a white/blue symbol next to them.

So if O2 3G and 2G was available it world appear twice in the list.

yeah you have 3g coverage, theres a site only 2miles away from you.

id have a word with customer services, you need a 3g sim, i think they call them "usim's" dont they? dont take any shit off them, having 3g on your account and having the correct kit to use it are two different things.

Off topic: Does this mean there's a site (apart from Sitefinder) that shows the location of masts and antennae? If so, could you pm it to me?

Back on topic: I have an O2-UK 2.5G contract currently. Does this mean then if I put my sim into a 3G phone, I can access O2's 3G service without having to get a new sim, contract, etc. (with the right settings, of course!)?

Off topic - yes but its an tool we use at O2 which is unavailable to the outside world i'm afraid.

edit: very sorry for the misinformation but it appears the tools is available to the public. the link is http://www.webmap.o2.co.uk

On-topic - As far as I'm aware mate no you wont. you will need a new sim card before you can use 3G services, even if customer services say its active on your account, that doesnt matter, you need a new sim. You will be able to call and text and use GPRS because the phone will just use the 2G coverage.

There will be no different settings in the phone, I had this confusion when I got my first 3G phone. All the accounts in the data account area are exactly the same as on 2G so you dont need any new settings put in the phone itself.

Hope that clears things up mate.

Goto O2's website and click on coverage in the menu on the left.
