....hmmm, how big is a 5mp .jpg file?? 2-3mb itself?? Good argument for HSPA(as blogging is UPLOADing, not Downloading)....

Around 1 MB but they'll get scaled down as on K800.

Ahh.....ok......yet my K800 made ~1mb pics last year, are you sure Sofia saves similar sized(but larger resolution) files?? This gives me worries about the forms of compression used.....

Scaling makes sense tho'!

I have some pics on my K800 that are 2.2MB So on a 5Mp cam they should be 3-4MB!

I meant around 1 MB. My N95 gives me everything from 500 kb to 2 MB in 5 megapixel resolution. so you really can't say "how much" it is

I've never had a picture exceed the ~1mb range on 3mp in my k790a. How did you get a 2.2mb file?

Maybe the phone will allow for options in terms of compression techniques (whether it saves as jpg or will allow a tiff etc... like on a real camera...we can only hope)

Hurst, most phones (and consumer Digicams for that matter) save photos as JPEGs. Because of how JPEG works the final size of the image is determined by how complex your photo is. Large areas of the same colour compress very nicely, whereas areas with lots of contrasty details don't.

For example, if you took a photo of some blue sky the resulting JPEG would probably be much smaller than if you take a photo of a tree with lots of branches and leaves on it.

You always get this kind of variance in file sizes regardles of the JPEG quality settings. The quality just raises or lowers the range. So, at 50% quality photos may range from, say, 200k to 700k but at full quality it might be something like 400k to 2mb or whatever (those figures are just for illustration and not real, btw).

Hope that makes sense.

Yeah, I can't find any photo larger than 902kb on my K790.

This phone as been confirmed by the Gracenote announcement.

Can't wait to see it.

I think I would have preferred it to be called the K1i. It sounds much better.
