I'm poking around for spypics of the P3i which is supposed to be with us in a few weeks time. Nothing to be found so far.

Yeah, it's very hard to get out some info from SE these days. Seems they've learned their lessons...
I guess we won't see any real pictures unless PeterKay will be allowed to publish them - unfortunately.

He said he'll publish the picures before SE announces its new phones.

BTW: Very nice and creative implementation of the first page, goldenface

Ok finally, my friend form SE told me about P3i (it can’t be P3i but next one, he smile always when I call this phone P3i) is not VGA … but is wide one …

Touch Screen ===> 2.8’’ 240x400
Still hiding about type but it can be OLED ….

Am i the only one who thinks 2.8" is lame? I kind of regret i tried iphone, now i wont find any replacement in that particular field. You like it or not Nokia started to make touchscreen phones, why is that right after iphone came out?

I dont care if SE puts Quad core processor in P3i,.. i want a large screen! P1i and even upcomming W960 look like a joke to N95 8GB (which is out?).

240x400 isn't a standard resolution. WQVGA (432x240) is the wide screen version with a ratio of 9:5. If this is true then we can rule out the 'P3i' being the same format as the P1i. It will have to be flip or slider.

@m-one

Thanks, its an ongoing process.

I TOTALLY agree with you!!
And we are talking about devices that will be released in q1..maybe even q2 of 2008 !!
SE is loosing too much ground!
I ll wait till November the 15th to see the new phones and i hope these rumors are wrong....

Actually I found the lot matrixes with 240x400

… and looks like next phone will keep good size and weight.
But most important it can be OLED (70% true).

Ah, so the new OLED display comes in its own standard size. Great, lets hope it appears on the 'P3i'.

Prom1,
I agree with you about landscape QWERTY smartphones,but the WVGA display resolution is a common trend in Japanese phones.Not that VGA isn't,but WVGA is better for movies and etc.,which is normal.With the mass roll-out of iPhonish phones(sorry for the bad combination),multimedia will be the focus,as well as landscape mode browsing(ala iPhone,again).SE Japan made a good WVGA UI.WVGA will be better for onscreen QWERTY also.Even if MOOI/Maria(or whatever) hasn't WVGA screen(which will probably be the case),it will surely have WQVGA or at least 400x240 pixel screen.Widescreens are the future.Because we are talking about multimedia here.And browsing.(and yes,future of the landscape display QWERTY smartphones too,but you know that)

The iPhone's display fever caught me, too.I hardly went back to QVGA 2.6 inch after I played with iPhone for some time.2.6/2.8 or even 3 inches aren't fine these days.3.5 is the minimum,and 4.1 is pretty much the optimum for me.(considering the size of the phone and battery life)

I doubt if Samsung SDI has enough production capacity to supply WQVGA OLED screens for SE's worldwide launch of any phone in Q1 2008

most of the resources will be taken up by AU's winter line with quite a number of phones using the same OLED screen, they would start selling in mid nov- mid dec, and I expect them to fly of shelves

I say SE should bring the high end to the low end! This is what the iPhone accomplished. It's real innovation is getting North Americans to think of a phone as having more than one function. Prior to that, most people here thought of smartphones as only for geeks and businessmen. Apple deserves credit for opening people's eyes.

90% of people are looking for the phone to perform certain functions...such as communicate (calls, text, etc.) and enjoy media (music, video, internet). Apple's success was being able to deliver a product that met those needs and then some. Most people dont care about an OS and dont want or need one. Thats the reason the iphone is successful.

But this is also exactly where SE can excel. SE has brand recognition in Walkman and Cyber-Shot and they should use it!

SE chould release a touchscreen Walkman but one up Apple by making it quadband EDGE, Triband HSPA, possibly add 802.11n, skip a complicated OS and utilize a flash OS a la Prada phone, add a decent 3.2MP autofocus camera. Bundle that with a 4GB-8GB card and sell it for less than 400 bucks. Plus, because its not the Jesus Phone, carriers will be able to subsidize it. SE will rule the roost!

SE could also use a similar platform and strategy for the Cybershot line by making a touchscreen Cybershot with a flash OS, Wifi, 3G and EDGE radios and say a 5MP cam with optical zoom. That would kill too.

SE also needs to define those two product lines better...physically. All Walkman phones should have proper headphone jacks, good speakers and sound (maybe via DSP) and most importantly dedicated music buttons. And likewise for the Cybershot line, which should have dedicated cam buttons, xenon flash, and have the look and feel of a camera!
