OK, I've just worked this out. I called Sony Ericsson today and asked about the update service. They said for it to work with the V600 (and I assume the K600 and K608) that one would need a desk stand. I went out and bought this and the update service has now worked for me, updating the software on my phone. Can't say that I'm too impressed with having to spend £39.99 on the stand, but at least it now works.

I could have done with saving the extra pounds with the amount of money I've spent on Christmas!!

well yeah i was just about to say nothing happened when i held down 'C' while plugging the in-box USB cable-

argh I dont think i'd want to buy the desk stand- not anytime soon at least, LOL-

Well, the new firmware seems to be a marked improvement. Menu browsing on my V600i is now much faster and the ringtones are much louder. I'm still not sure if it was worth the £40 to buy the deskstand though...........

I still hearing a little noise before the "hands free" speaker work.
F.E. befor a SMS ringtone...

I have a V600i, but when I insert the power cable while holding down C, windows doesnt recognise it, then when I press the power button, windows recognises it- but then the phone switches on! I have been able to install the flash drivers, but SEUS still says 'no deskstand connected' :S

red flashes/R2T002 for K600/608 just got released on davinci a few hours ago btw

..and I killed my phone in the process of trying to reflash my R2G005/taiwan back to R2J001/EU :'c
