also got a d500 here that has a odd problem, switches on works fine, but the backigight aint on fully, like half and got no idea why

Brightness control? i have that on my SE.. not sure if samsung have it too... worth a look

Sorry. . . I'm buttin' in on this topic about the Samsung fone with the backlight problem. . . I have a Samsung e800 with a similar problem - theres no backlight at all. . . Could this really be a 'brightness' problem??

Your Samsung screen problems - probably something to do with the data ribbon. It's either damaged, or simply wants the phone taking apart and the cable re-siting back into it's connector properly
