Here´s what Eldar said today at m-r

Motorola UIQ products and cameras
No photo here, sorry

This year is coming successor of Z8 - only one extra UIQ product

Next year it will be 9 products for different markets

Most of them with 3 mpx cameras, one or two with 5 mpx

Motorola want to be second largest UIQ producer after SE...

All of this product is media products. I play with Zxx in London, thanks to marketing stuff of Motorola, I really like this phone over Z8.

Price for this product line will be higher than for S60 devices with similar capabilities (or even better features). This is marketing decision. But design, materials etc are really good.

Bengal Boy will receive pictures and proto in 3 months I think, and you will see successor of Z8

Hope this inside will be usefull

I remember some saying some months ago that "UIQ is dead"...add this to the fact that HTC is quiting producing windows devices, and you have a nice scenery for the next years

Hi ares,

Again i have already pointed out to you on My-Symbian i never said it was dead, and lets face it how could Motorola possibly come third when their are only two companies using UIQ3? It's just not possible it's a very strange statement to make, it doesn't say anything but state the obvious.

But it is good news that Motorola is aggressively entering the UIQ3 smart phone market. If nothing else it will push SE into upping the specs of their devices as currently even the Z8 is technically more advanced in it's spec that the P1. A lot of people have been writing Motorola off because of their recent losses but the Z8 and new UIQ3 devices and their Q9 are serious products for the growing Data sector. This sector is where you sell premium devices at premium prices and high profit. Now if Motorola offer the Q9 running UIQ3 instead of Windows Mobile 6 that would be very interesting IMO.

Dogmman, it was not just you saying that

I also thing if most of those new Moto UIQ phones are non-ts, and if SE folows, S60 will finally have direct competition

This is also great for Symbian platform has a whole, specialy, like i said, knowing HTC will probably also start producing Symbian devices

Hi ares

Didn't you mean to say it wasn't you that said that it was others?

That's interesting about HTC as up to now they have specialised in Touch screen devices, but some of their devices do have great spec's. I for one am very excited as HSDPA and the speeds that will bring mean that Mobile Data is eventually starting to hit the main market and starting to really grow and mature. As the more users there are the more we can expect and an increase in R&D and great devices to follow.

Z8 better than P1 spec wise? or must be Z8 specs is unique and newer than P1? have some whitepapers and count one by one the specs offered by Z8 which is exhibited by P1 in different form: namely Touchscreen instead of non-TS, slower 3G instead of HSDPA, wifi instead of none, 3.2Mp AF + 2LED flash camera instead of 2mp non-AF + 1 LED flash butterfly keyboard instead of alphanumeric board, 262K QVGA 2.6" screen instead of 16M QVGA 2.2" and of course being SE instead of motorola=D

UIQ for me is better than Windows CE(windows mobile), it allows more flexibility than windows albeit developers haven't touched yet all of it's software features. one example is the prohiition of more than 65K solors in windows in which UIQ supports more than that(4096,65536,262144 and the current 16777216 colors)

If Sofia comes with UIQ 3.1 and HSDPA, Rizr Z8 will directly compete with it besides, Sofia will also compete with nokia's camera centric OS phones. it's good that HTC will touch UIQ and Linux in the future.

@kennyUIQ3

You got most of the points but missed the faster processor and better graphics chip and yes the camera is better in the SE offering. But HSDPA @ up to 3.2mbps means if you have one of the many unlimited and inexpensive Data plans the missing WiFi is really not a deal breaker.

Also a camera in a smart phone is really not that important IMO although i accept it may be for some. The simple fact is even though i don't like the Z8 due to it's black plastic construction it is built on 2007 spec internals not 2005/6 as in the SE. I really don't get the relevance of it being non touchscreen as it was never mean to be one and that is not a spec issue just user preference to have one or not. I also don't get the reference to Windows as the Z8 runs UIQ3.
