If I was to buy a sim-free 3G/UMTS handset how would I get a 3G PAYG sim from Orange, as on their site they do not appear to have any 3G simcards?

I know 3G sims can cost more than an average 2/2.5G sim but where would you get one from? If I rang Orange customer service would they be able to send me one?

I expect this has prob been asked many times before but the search does not seem to be helping :S Also, thanks in adavnce for any help

Orange 3G sims are often available from ebay and i think they had them free from their website every so often.

Carphone warehouse sell 3g Orange sims for not a lot of money, sometimes free when you buy 10quid credit from them

I went with 3uk as 3G coverage is a ton better than orange and an awful lot cheaper ( e.g on 3 contract for an extra fiver u get x-series addon which has free skype calls, msn messenger and unlimited internet. I've even watched divx tvshows via it on stage6.com using my laptop connected to phone via bluetooth)

3uk also use oranges network if there is no 3U or o2 coverage so you get the best of both worlds in my opinion.

It will work on 3UK but you will not be able to browse the 3Uk protal without 3 Branded firmware.

Internet browsing will work fine, but u wont be able to access 3 tv channels, check balance/addons through their portal etc etc.

The 3 branded firmware has specific certificates that make it work.

I've tried just extracting the certificates and installing them on a sim-free 3g SE phone via customize_upgrade.xml but it still didnt work.

It only worked once i had flashed the phone with a 3 branded MAIN firmware.

there is minimal branding on it and most can be removed with a few tricks (e.g menu icons and the planet3 button on standby screen) so mine now looks non branded and works on the portal.

BUT this is will only work if there is a 3 Branded firmware available for your model SE phone.

I have a T650i, i flashed it with their k770i firmware as they are fundamentally the same phone just different housing.

I spoke to 3 a few times about allowing a sim-free phone to work on their portal and they said maybe they might be able to flash my phone themselves to make it work if i sent it to them which i didnt want to do.

k750 atm but looking at upgrading sort of january time to either a sim-free k850 or sim-free p1i so I will then need a 3g sim for my new phone cos atm I only have a 2g one in my k750.
