Hi everyone, long time lurker, finally registered.

Been a Nokia fanboy since the late 90s but 2 years ago got W880i, sold it, then got a K800i for £50 from Dial-a-Phone, an offer from a year ago and has been my work/2nd contract mobile for a year and liked it function wise, form wise it felt like a brick.

I just got an O2 Locked (there an easy/safe way to unlock it?) W890i Mocha from Marshal Ward for £65 (after £30 discount code from HotUKDeals and Quidco cashback. I hope to keep the K800i as a spare PAYG phone as it is a great phone.

I got the W890I primarily for it's size and the SE superior battery, barely noticeable in my pocket, sound quality/walkman/camera functions all secondary to that, although from what I can gather, W890i lacks graphics accelerator which I can notice, but worth the sacrifice for size.

However there does seem to be an issue with reception, I've seen elsewhere mentioned those little silver connections at the back of a uncovered W890i are for the antenna aerial which connect to the back removable case allowing that piece of metal to act as an antenna, but it doesn't work in most cases which is why alot of people moan about reception???

Is that accurate? I wanted to try tiny bits of foil on there, see if I could ensure the connection and provide better reception? Just a daft idea but wanted to ensure I wasn't going to do damage anything.

Advice/suggestions welcome.

Thanks.

Got mine today . I'm very happy with it so far. This is by far the best small-sized device I've owned. The build-quality is even better than W880i. I liked the rubberized back of the W880 though...
The keys now are much better, a lot easier to type on. Although that was never a problem for me with the W880. As it's dark outside I cannot tell anything about the camera, but I don't expect much from it. The 2MP of the W880 already were sufficient for me, personally now 3.2MP will be just fine for occasional shots in goot lighting conditions. For everything else I use a "real" camera.

Right now I'm using the W890 as a modem with my notebook. Surfing the web via HSDPA at around 2Mbit/s (net) feels fantastic. You almost forget that this is not a broadband connection. Very impressive. UMTS was already quite usable when on the move. But THIS is just perfect! No need for WLAN any more. As I have 5GByte included I now can actually expect to use a considerable portion of that ...
YouTube: no problem. Live-TV streaming in TV quality: no problem. Even loading email in the meantime.

As you might notice the W890 serves several purposes for me: a high-speed data modem and a very slim and light camera phone I can use as an MP3 player.

Thank you SE for this spectacular phone!

Hi dude, i'm glad i've found another w890 fans. I'm using w890 currently, n i love this phn very much, btw i'm using data unlimited plan provided by my network service provider, so i could access to net unlimited, but i got some problem n hope to solve it. When i connect to the Youtube, it show me ' failed to connect to the streaming server' do u know how to watch Youtube on w890? Please assist. Thank you for reading

Talk about livening up an OLD thread ... comes in my post. Heck I'm an old enough member on these boards to do so.

I have a HUGE affinity for nostalgia, more so lately than ever before. I'll be on the hunt for an SE W890i in Silver or Black (if the Black is fully and a quality Black versus a faded charcoal that I can tell from all the pictures).

Looking to travel and to be honest this tri-band/quadband 3G phone will be supported around most of the globe still and will suite my purposes. Not going to carry around my iPhone 8 so this W890i will be perfect.

Any tips for software support on macOS (OSX 10.13) or Windows 10 that will still work?
Is firmware updates STILL available for local over USB installation in case I need to?

Another reason for this phone (or maybe a K850i that I used to own) is I still have an M2 card with my son's childhood pictures I don't have anywhere else so would be nice to get those pics off.

Thanks.
