hi,

I bought a cect Hiphone online.

I've tested it out with a vodaphone SIM card, and it works great, and it actually quite nice! I'd like to use it for a while, but i'm on a 3 contract.... locked to it for another 17 months *cringe*

When i try to use the phone with the 3 sim card in, it gets signal, but when trying to do messages, or make calls it gives messages like "call forbid!" leading me to think that there's a conflict with the bands.

Is there anyway to get this phone to work with my 3 sim card (it's a new card, bought about a month ago).

I have a friend who seemed to have his 3-uk simcard working in my K550i, which isn't 3g, so is there any way of getting this to function on GSM!?

If i can't get it working then i'll have to sell it, which seems like such an injustice!

if you use a 2g phone on 3UK, you will get a couple of texts from 3 telling you to turn 3g on otherwise they will cut you off from the network

i wouldnt mind that! I want to leave 3 anyway! So could that technically be a way of terminating my 3 contract!!! They'd be doing me a favour

ooh, you mean the money for the remaining months of the contract.

I must say, that is absurd. Can't believe a network is allowed to be so restrictive and controling whilst providing such a poor service.

although my mate was on 3payg when he got the texts from 3, i guess it will be the same for contracts

Think this goes back to the days of the samsung t100 where everyone buged their 3 chips in but i think they are being more strict as it actually costs 3 everytime you use a 2g signal as you are logging onto other networks masts.

Ok, to clear things up because this is getting silly:

-In the begining, no you couldn't use 3 sims in 2G phones, then, until very recently, you could, and as of last month some time, you can't. You really can't.

-You will not get 'cut off' by the network, if you're in contract you still have to pay it. It's your problem if you don't have a phone to use with their network, not theirs.

-You cannot terminate your contract early by putting your sim in a 2G phone, even intentionally. Your contract is a contract, and last time I checked that word means 'legally binding'.

OMG! I am having the exact problem, but couldn't find anything about it anywhere.
I got my contract about 2 years ago now, so my sim is about that old, would it work or not? I know your question was last year but just wondering whether you solved it or got it to work?!
