since I moved back to tmobile a few months ago I have been able to access an orange signal automatically. However I mostly use data and the orange data available to tmobile customers was limited to GPRS only... so usually as soon as I saw I was connected to Orange I would manually switch back to tmobile!

last week I saw mention that from this week Orange 3g would finally be available to tmobile customers and today on my way home from work I actually experienced it.

Now I'm impressed with my choice of carrier. tmobile and orange 3g combined is brilliant for me as I know have a full 3g signal all the way home from work.

Yes,I have been with T Mobile contract for over a year now & rarely get any issues!! Coverage is excellent even out in the sticks too. Do not forget T Mobile also share 3G with Three too So the best of 3 worlds T Mobile,Orange & three

is it that 3 uses tmobiles network as opposed to the tmobile/orange deal where you can use either network?

I've never seen a 3 signal on my tmobile sim and even if I manually choose it I simply get a "no service" display.

mind you, I don't know if 3 users get to use both tmob and orange?

I don't think you'd know cos it's like O2/Vodafone sharing masts you don't see any switch over on your screen. I think Three & T Mobile share each others masts. Three uses Orange 2G as back up.

my tmob shows orange if I'm actually connected to orange.
my 3 sim in my ipad shows 3, not tmob

so I would expect that if my tmob sim in my phone was connected to 3 it would show 3?

No they SHARE masts it's not like a joint venture like T Mobile/Orange. I think where O2/Vodafone share masts you never see the opposite network on your screen but you do with T Mobile/Orange cos it's the same company now. The other networks are just sharing same cell sites. Mine shows Orange too when no T Mobile is available. But it does not show Three cos it's just sharing sites not a network integration. I might be talking out my arse but that's what I believe is the case

That might be a good idea as T mobile deals are better than Orange
