Nokia Lumia 800, one of the two available Windows Phones from Nokia is expected to have sold one million units during Q4 2011
Esato News

NokiaLumia800estimatedsalesfiguresQ42011 According to a recent report by Morgan Stanley, Nokia will ship 37 million Windows Phone smartphones during 2012. This number will increase to 64 million in 2013. HTC is estimated to ship 6 million in 2012 and 10 million next year. And then we have LG, Samsung and ZTE which will add up even more devices. So far, we have not received any exact sales figures from Microsoft or any of the Windows Phone manufactures. Probably because the sales figures not are anything to brag about. Smartphones running on the two main competitors iOS and Android currently outperforms the young OS Windows Phone. Before Nokia hit the market in Europe, IDC estimated that Windows Phone was shipped on 138.000 handsets in Europe Q3 2011. Estimated sales figures for Q4 2011 is 500.000 smartphones.Competing against Sony Xperia SMotorola Droid 4 and HTC Titan II the blog Cnet recently awarded Nokia Lumia 900 as the best smartphone at CES 2012 voted by Cnet editors and users. Coming to AT&T in March, this is the first Nokia Windows Phone hitting the U.S market. It seems Nokia is doing something right with their new Windows Phone smartphones. It also noteworthy to see that Symbian still is the major source of income for the Finnish telecom giant. Morgan Stanley estimates that most 2012 handsets from Nokia will be running Symbian with sales figures up to 40 million.NokiasellingonemillionWindowsPhoneLumia800devicesinq42011sourcesourceDo you think Nokia and Microsoft will succeed with Windows Phone devices in 2012?

Excellent. Quite a positive start for Nokia but they still need to do more. I think a Lumia will be my next device

Glad to see Nokia going up again.

From the path we're on, it appears that most phones that are sold will be smartphones.

I think this Morgan Stanley forecast is wrong. It is based on Nokia's overall sales stabilising from 2011-13 while the mix of OS changes from Symbian dominant to Windows Phone dominant. The faulty assumption is that nearly 50% of Nokia customers won't notice that their new device is running Windows Phone not Android.

Buyers of Symbian phones generally don't know that their phone has a smartphone OS on it, whereas Android buyers know they are buying an Android phone that can run apps. Assuming that 37m smartphone buyers are going to choose the Nokia brand over the Android brand in 2012 requires faith indeed, especially as it looks from the estimates that Nokia only shifted about 400,000 Windows Phones in Q4 2011.

More likely is that Nokia will shift 4-5m Windows Phones next year and if the 40m Symbian figure is accurate, then we should be the buyout by Microsoft announced before the year is out.

I guess we'll just wait for you to get one then we'll have lots of complaints

I was a huge fan of WM up to 6.5 but I have absolutely no interest in even trying any latest version...

haha

In terms of WP7, I think that there is a future for it. The metro UI is becoming increasingly popular and has started influencing others such as SE's new Android skin. Microsoft are obviously massive and are all around us... Xbox has recently adapted to incorporate the metro UI and once windows 8 comes out I think that this will become more popular as people get use to the interface. Well it has to succeed otherwise Microsoft are screeeeewed!

Having used it i found it smoother than Android and really fluid. Its a big improvement from 6.5 version.

I know that if more people have a wp7.5 device that further development will follow but I really don't care how many are sold. I like my Lumia despite it's little flaws, more or less the same as iPhone has.
