Well, didn't do any research, but I do talk to people around me , and got the impression, that a lot of (especially young) people would buy an iPhone instantly, if it wasn't so expensive.

I have no doubt that a lot would (and I think that especially young says it all as iphones these days are far from not affordable)- I was only questioning the "8 out of 10 would prefer an iPhone if they tried one "

A bit offtopic here, but of course I've been referring to the situation in the Netherlands, where you don't get high-end phones for free with any contract (expensive phones only with expensive contracts) so the price of devices like the newest iPhone or Galaxy S/Note can be an issue for adults too. In the past, many had expensive 2-year contracts, with more minutes and MB's, than they ever needed, just to finance the high-end phone they wanted. In these economically unsure times, when many don't even know, whether they still have a job in two years, people think twice, when they don't need that many minutes and data, they get a cheaper contract, in which case they can still have that high-end phone, when they pay up to 400 euros extra, or end up with the phone they can have for free, like a cheap LG or Galaxy mini. And an increasing amount of people is having a sim-only contract, buying a phone themselves (sometimes second-hand) or using the phone that came with their expired contract.

Here in UK you get good offers for free phones butv of course you have to sign a 2 years contract . In saying that though you can still buy the iPhone 4s for £199 so for people looking for cheap phones iphones are available too .Then you still have the 5c which you can buy sim free for £320 and 5s for £460 and iphone 6 start from £550. So unlike the old times you have the iPhone priced at various price points it is no longer high end only

Nah man that is just being SHREWD! The fact that this has been maintained and increased to this stage since the death of Mr. Jobs means Apple as a company and their CEO is doing a fantastic job.
