Anyone having experience of both those models?
Would W890 work better with a 16GB m2 card than W880?
http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=1838&idPhone2=2172

Got tired of smartphones or more correctly the need of choosing between: a way too big phone (and too expensive) or a small phone (often cheaper) but that hasn't the power to run Android... Properly. So I'm back with Feature-phones.

Except for phone calls, texting and as pocket watch, I want/need my phone to work as a mp3-player.
That means some 3000 songs of 13GB on a m2 or microSDHC card.

Bought a SE W880 from China.
Firstly it wouldn't flash to a Nordic firmware, when I at last got the phone flashed, it was way to slow.
Flashing it a second time and changing 16GB m2-card and battery, it become nice to use all W880 menus and functions (except for the Walkman v2.0 and it's music archive handling)

Walkman v2.0 and W880 plays music perfect thru a Samsung HS3000 Bluetooth stereo headset but only playing them from the list.
Wanted to listen to a certain one song this time "Nick Borgen - We Are All the Winners" and W880 failed totally
It took W880 10 minutes to search thru the archive for w.e._.a.r.e
I really want that function to go faster, not in minutes but in seconds.
SE only guaranteed W880 to work with m2 cards up to 4GB, so I demand a lot from the poor old W880.

Would the W890 cure some of the shortcomings of the W880? Even tough SE only guaranteed up to 4GB m2 for W890 too..
At least W890 got the Walkman 3.0 while W880 having the 2.0

I really love my W880 but need a phone that is faster and better to choose a certain song in my humble music collection...
I'm also having a terrible weakness for slim bar phones in silver.

Horrible
Over 500 reading and no one having an idea of how W890 performs with a 16GB m2 memory card compared to a W880.

Well as a aficionado, I'm now waiting for a W890 from China (Seems to be no more W890 left for sale in Scandinavia).

So within a week or two, I will be able to test it for myself...

Hope this one will work better for you, even though it also supports only 4GB according to the specs and it's almost as 'old 'as the W880. Had neither of those myself, so have no idea, whether it'll work.

Or maybe you can forget your "weakness for slim bar-phones" and order a W995, is supports 16GB M2 cards and it's a great device. But it's a slider . My last SE, the Satio (still have it, for old times sake ), even supported 32GB, but that's no Walkman phone.
Both W995 and Satio are from 2009, two years younger than W880 and 890 (2007). Two years is a long time in tech, 2007 devices probably don't have enough processing power and RAM for 16GB cards.

Nah, no fan of sliders or folding phones (for now).

The problem is that different models behave different with more storage than SE recommends.
For instance T700, W508 T707 and K850 works perfectly with a 16GB card.
Whilst W880 W302 and S312 won't read/write at all, or coming to an almost stand-still.
(off those I have to test).

There is one reason to expect or at least worth testing the W890.
Firstly it is a handsome handset. Secondly things seems to have be Ericsson's-normalizetion on the W890 compared to the W880.
The W880 had it's button thrown around and opposite to normal SonyEricsson layout. W890 have the buttons in and orderly SE fashion...

A rapport (or more probably a summarize) how the W890 works with 16GB m2 cards will come, stay tuned.

Off-topic warning
It's harder find sellers of m2 card by the year. There are m2 16GB cards in small numbers to buy at likes as Amazon and Ebay. m2 8GB and 4GB seems to be available all around everywhere still.

When the last m2 card been sold, what will happens to the usability of SonyEricsson's phones then?

Edit: buttons in and orderly SE fashion... Maybe the same goes for the W890 innards.

The wait turned out be a month, but today it arrived and got flashed from an Asian firmware to a Nordic one in a jiffy.

The W890 is very much a normailized to -standard W880. External and apparently internal too.
Which is good thing about the W890.

W890 works much better with a 16GB m2 card than the W880, but compared with likes as T700, T707, C902, C510 and W508, the W890 is much slower and less able.

But as halfway house between the design (W880) and a more able music player (A Smartphone or mp3-player), W890 is nice.

Nice to know. Thanks for sharing your experience with the W890.

I was thinking of buying one the other day, that design along with the W995 and the C702 are the ones i like the most. However i ended up buying a Xperia E1 which i found cheap enough.
