How many years have you used the same SIM-card? Why did you get the new one?

My SIM-card (and also the phone) is now over 11 years old. Recently the phone and SIM got wet, but after cleaning they both keep on working.

I think I've used the same SIM for over 6 years. And that was because I changed the phone and it used a mini one.

You can keep using the same sim card if you have an old one. I have used the same sim card from 2004. when it changed form factor with newer devices to mini and then nano, I simply trimmed my sim card to the correct dimensions. While this is never recommended by a carrier, it will work if you do it correctly. I had to get rid of that sim card recently because I switched carriers. That was the only reason.

So, as far as maximum age of a sim card - it depend greatly on the carrier. The card itself works fine but changes in carrier network requirements and information hand shaking may force an upgrade or swap out.
