I don't seem to be able to get my IR port working with any software. Its configured in setup as COM1 but no software seems to recognise COM1. Any ideas. Cheers...

fyi, i'm using an Inspiron 7500 running XP Pro so may not be far off...only i'm not currently using infrared with any Ericsson software but it is working.

things to check:

1. check the InfraRed is installed properly:
open Control Panel, Wireless Link, click the 'Hardware' tab and make sure 'Built-in Infrared Device' exists.
click 'Properties' and check Device status - should say 'This device is working properly'
click 'IrDA Setting' mine is set to 115200 - this may need adjusting to as low as 9600 to see if it makes a difference - when modifying the connection speed you'll need to restart your computer each time and test with different settings.

2. check it's not sharing resouces with other devices
Start\Programs\Accessories\System Tools\System Information - extend 'Hardware Resources' click 'Conflicts/Sharing' - look for the Infrared port under 'Device' to see what resource it may be sharing.

let us know the result of each, if this is fine its likely to be the software and may need additional drivers.

ps too much time on my hands this week.
