2Mbit is technical possible, but yes it will take some time before we actually see any speeds near that.
Like Telia calling their ADSL service for broadband. They deliver 512Kb/s but its possible to speed it up to 3 or ifīs 6Mbit, but then want to make so much money as possible i guess, then raise the speed.

Telia really su*ks.

And yes the speed you mention is what we can expect in the beginning of 3G.

well, only one network support gprs here, and we won't get full benefits for years, so 3g will come here in 20 years

yep, about there... i can feel it

3G = 3rd Generation....
In general, it should be known as UMTS.
It is an exact replica of GSM network with GPRS (looking at GSM Core network perspective) but has better bandwidth capacity...hence, provide faster throughput.
GPRS uses Frame Relay at at Gb interface whereas 3G uses ATM at the Iu interface.
GSM/GPRS uses SIM whereas 3G uses USIM.
The list go on and on....
You can get lots of details on the net...

Cheers!

I would disagree with the fact that 2Mbit is technical possible, but more theoretically possible. It is also theoretically possible to go way above 2Mbit on a 3G system as well. The only work to be done on these high speeds on a WCDMA is in labs so 2Mbits is a pipe dream as well as how the operators will use it in the NW. So the press and the vendors don't always tell the truth..... but still 384 kicks GPRS ass in

2Mbit...hahahhaaha...works only if you are the only one in the network and if you are stationary. But of course, this depends greatly on the handsets.
At the moment, most operator are targeting for 128 kbits/s downlink.

I have have been working extra testing Ericsson network eqipment that I have been told are used for 3G, but like most of the others that are working with Ericsson products you really donīt know what the things you are working on are for. I do for a fact know that the cards sends data in packets Well I'm sorry but I donīt know anything about 3G...
