i just go into the menu, then into connectivity and then scroll down to gsm/3g networks and that option lets me switch the 3g bit off if i want...

as my V8 is still....errr dead. I cannot test it. So if anyone with a working V8 can follow Voda Jon's instructions to see.
But be warned - he may have given you the key combination to kill your phone
By the way there is some new FW on EMMA II i think its only developer though. R1J still the latest.
