is this bangalore-specific because it doesn't seem to be working for me

Absolutely not.

My sim is from Trichy (its a city , if you don't know)

I am in Chennai now (It is here that I found the trick)

My mobile is a Swedish Vodafone locked (now unlocked ) F500i.

Am I KEWL or what

Moreover if you take a look at the previous page ,it works for my good friends raj7650ace and kosmonov.

raj7650ace is from Kerala

So you should have no probs. I think you have a NOKIA ,am I right?

By the way, I just exceeded 2 GB yesterday

This trick doesn't work on WAP 2.0 phones like Nokia 6600. If anyone able to succeed using Nokia 6600, please post the extra initialization string here.

iam using sendo-x as i've said b4..it is similar to nokia symbian based phones..so infact i can giv my views on how i connected..as spartan instructed i got my configuration settings & saved it in my mobile, i made a copy of it & saved it as a second configuration with the first being the default connection portal..if u use serial(dku) cable or ir for detecting ur phone as a modem then ter will b no problem i guess..once ur phone gets detected as a modem create a new n/w connection as instructed by spartan..u will get connected with no problem at all...if ters a problem with dialing then just query ur modem for communication..tat should hint wats the problem is(whether the com port is being stolen by any other application & stufss like tat)..once it gets connected i usually access my homepage(tats sendo homepage 4 me..) but i wont connect & givs a msg tat access forbidden and i then connect thru my opera webpage..the trick i did is tat ie(internet explorer is damn complex to set ur proxy server thing)..hence avoided it & used opera browser which is easier..only after u set the proxy server with address 100.1.200.99 & port 8080 it got connected..so dont 4get to change ur server address & port address..this is wat i did & after some failure attempts it got connected finally..this is my effort..i think it will work in most nokia phones..hope u all get connected..cheers...& by the way if u follow spartan's instruction correctly i dont think it wont b a problem at all

& if u find any difficulty with modem detection & connection..try this..

Its interesting that you say that XP cannot find a driver.

The driver its looking for ins the STANDARD Modem VIA IR. Its inbuilt into all windows editions.

ensure that you are not activating IR transfer, and that you are activating the FAX modem IR. Once its installed, to use it as a GPRs modem you will need to add the following at command into the extra initialisation string in the modem properties........

AT+CGDCONT=2,"IP","the gprs apn you are trying to connect to"

Hope that helps,

I just saw my friends Nokia 6610i today and got a shock.
It seems that some Nokia models have provision only for one account and options for multiple access points. That is why they can dial either *99# or *99***1# . Can anybody confirm this?

I am working on a different method for those Nokias.

Yes. Might be
But Nokia 6600 have multiple account provision. But only the fact is it uses WAP 2.0. In WAP 2.0, Nokia has blocked many functions. Like, you can't browse PC internet in your phone using mRouter connection. But in this case, I think there may be a extra initialization string that will do the job. But as we don't know it, we have to wait till someone GENIOUS find it.

Hey AlanDS,

Take a look at this page, I think it has exactly what you need

http://www.cs.helsinki.fi/u/mraento/symbian/bt-ap.html

If that does not help you , I will try to find another way

Dear Spartan,
Thanks for the link.
I had tried this trick 2 months ago, but was not working. It explains how to use PC internet in ur mobile. But we want vice-versa.
Please try to find another way.
Thanks

Hooray!!!!
It's working now. I have done nothing. Just used opera and configured proxy server address and port and it got worked!!!
There is no need to dial for the second account for Airtel Online Subscribers.
Actually, I am posting this message through that free gprs.
Thanks spartan and all for guideing me.
