This looks intresting. IT would be really nice to have some Mbits without broadband installation. But as any new technology it will take years and years until my laptop or PDA has it...
However, from what it looked like to me it can never replace a mobile phone: there was no notice about support for roaming and moving users.
Did I miss something?

Few things are wrong. UWB is a replacement short range high speed (100mbps) LOW power. Wi-Max is an upgraded version of Wi-fi. Wi-Me is the upgrade with products out later this year. Nokia is producing a Wi-Fi phone. Bare in mind theres about 10 different verisons of Wi-Fi. This message was posted from a Nokia

@Kimcheboy: If you think a couple of years back you might remember the waiting for Bluetooth and Wi-Fi products. When they finally came to the market they were buggy an hard to use or eating battery in the Wi-Fi case.
Nokia making Wi-Max phone? I guess they're not so intrested anymore?
Nokia quits Wimax
They mention Mobile devices but in the sence of replacing WiFi for Laptops, PDAs and so on and not for telephony IMO...

I have a Toshiba WI-Fi enabled PocketPC and it doesn't even use that much battery

Nowadays they dont eat batteries but they used to do it for a couple of years.

Interesting views guys. Few years back, I read A report which says that most of the telecom companies have spent a lot of money to get 3G license. That leaves them with no more money needed to put the necessary infrastructure to support 3G. In an article from latest cebit fair, Intel wrote "move over 3G, here comes wimax".The article says that wimax will be cheaper to implement becauce the coverage area per station will be 10x wider (50km) approximately than 3G and 10x faster than 3G. Intel has talked to nokia about wimax and win its support at that time. The different between the 2 apart from speed is that 3 G's supports voice and data while wimax only support data. So in my humble opinion , I think if 3G takes too long to be implemented, it could be taken over by wimax since it will be cheaper.Regarding voice support , I don't think it is going to be a problem since wimax will be 10x faster(through voip). What do you think guys?
